Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | July 9, 2014, Wednesday epaper.GreaterKashmir.com facebook.com/DailyGreaterKashmir DAK slams separatists for failing to set up Bait-ul-Maal IMRAN MUZAFFAR Srinagar, July 8: A leading federation of medicos Tuesday slammed Kashmir’s pro-freedom leadership for its failure to set up institution of Bait-ul-Maal in Kashmir, in the absence of which countless people were living – and dying – a life of utter penury. “Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA), despite being a Khalifa (Caliph), wore wornout shoes, was usually clad with patched up garments and used to sleep on bare floor of Masjid,” said Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, President of Doctors Association Kashmir or DAK, in a statement. “Our leaders who preach teachings of Islam have a responsibility to create the institution of Bait-ulMaal. They have to follow and practice wisdom of the holy Quran, life of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) and the wisdom of Khalifas for creating a successful Baitul-Maal.” The DAK statement comes after Greater Kashmir exclusively reported on absence of Bait-ul-Maal in Kashmir and how destitute were suffering silently. On Tuesday, the Association called for establishment of Bait-ul-Maal in Kashmir to, what it said, serve the concept of ‘Haqooq-ul-Ibad,’ a fundamental principle of Islam. The Association also called for institutionalization of the system “in order to introduce Islamic concept of public trusteeship and public ownership by transferring wealth from individuals to a social collective ownership.” The financial institution of Bait-ul-Maal, according to historical accounts, has existed and grown since the time of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). It was an independent economic institution during the time of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA). The DAK president added, “We have failed to create the institution so far because our preaching and sermons are contrary to what we practice.” Pro-freedom leaders, he said, have to set up an example by donating their wealth and property to Bait-ul-Maal and “I am sure the nation will follow.” twitter.com/GreaterKashmir_ Murder of duo in 2007 Court acquits accused for lack of evidence D A RASHID Srinagar, July 8: A local court has acquitted four men accused of committing murder of two persons at Rajbagh here in 2007.
