He said Gowhar was hit by a pistol bullet in his head and died on the spot. “The incident took place at around 4:15 p.m. in the busy Khudwani-Qaimoh market and the assailants, after carrying out the attack, managed to flee from the spot,” the police official said. He said the deceased trooper was posted in Sector2 of 62 RR and had come home on leave. Gowhar was working as government gunman Engine failure halts Delhi-Katra train for 2 hours ABHINAV VERMA Katra, July 16: Barely a day after its first run, the New Delhi- Katra Shri Shakti express was stuck inside a tunnel on Katra- Udhampur track for about two hours, just 5 kms before Katra Railway Station, reportedly due to the engine failure. According to sources, fully air conditioned train 22461 on its second run came to a standstill due to some technical snag developed in the engine in Tunnel 27. "The halt inside the tunnel just 5 kms before its destination delayed the train by 2 hours and arrived at Katra at 7 a.m. against the scheduled arrival time of 5.10 a.m," officials at Katra Railway Station told Greater Kashmir. While unconfirmed sources said the train was suspended due to failure of the engine, Northern Railway PRO, Manish Tiwari told Greater Kashmir that it was stopped because the wheels of train turned slippery due to excess water on the track. He said that there was no problem with track or engine. He added as there are all the facilities available on the track, the driver immediately contacted the control room. "On the directions of control room, a banker engine was pushed in services from Udhampur Railway station," sources said. Locals said soon after the incident, Police, Army and CRPF laid cordon and launched search to nab the assailants. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack when this report was filed. Army rescues accident victim Srinagar, July 16: The Army’s local RR unit at Nutnussa rescued one car accident victim of Choghul village, who lost control over the vehicle which fell into a canal while returning home from Kupwara yesterday. According to a defence spokesman, the Army unit located nearby immediately reacted and rescued the victim Azhar Ganai. “The victim was provided medical aid and the car handed over to him. His family expressed their gratitude to Army for its support and assistance,” said the spokesman. PDP leader attacked in Pulwama SHOWKAT DAR Pulwama, July 16: Unidentified persons attacked Peoples Democratic Party leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Wachi with some explosive device in here Wednesday afternoon. However no one was hurt in the incident. According to reports, some unknown persons lobbed the explosive device at the vehicle, carrying PDP district president near Batpora Nyaina at around 3.40 p.m. However no one was hurt in the attack. A delegation from the locality said officials have failed to pay heed to their repeated pleas for restoration of power. “The transformer in our locality developed some snag ten days ago and was sent for repairing. The locality reels under darkness since then as it was not brought back quickly as was promised,” they said. They said that they had approached PDD higher ups but to no avail. “We are facing immense hardships especially during Sehri and Iftaar timings without electricity,” they added. They said the local water supply plant also has become defunct, resulting in scarcity of water to the local population.
