The 15 km stretch passing through Shumlaran, Chandoosa, Sultanpora, Dodhbugh and Nowgam villages was hit by a massive landslide in March this year near Darul Uloom Shulamlaran Kandi is posing threat to life of the commuters. This stretch is an alternate link to Baba Reshi shrine and Shranz Waterfall near Tangmarg. Locals said that despite on spot visit by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the road has not yet been taken for repairs. On Eid-ul-Fitr, hundreds of the workers also held a demonstration outside the residence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to press for their long-pending demand. “We have been working since 1994 in the department and still we have not been regularized,” a delegation of employees told Greater Kashmir. “That was the reason we protested on Eid since we had no support at all.” Around 1400 such workers are working in the department and their monthly salary ranges from Rs 4000 to 5000. “We are left-out people,” the employees said. “Under SRO 64, we want regularization of our services. Rahmoo residents protest against water scarcity SHOWKAT DAR Pulwama, July 31: The inhabitants of Astanpura area of Rahmoo here in south Kashmir staged protest demonstration against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department against lack of potable water supply. Reports said the residents took to streets and shouted anti-PHE slogans. The protesters, mostly women, blocked the Pulwama-Rahmoo-Charisharief road for several hours to press for their demand. The protesters alleged that eversince installation of water tank in the area, the water was supplied only for 10-days as the PHE employees provided several illegal connections on the main line which has created trouble to the whole village.
