n investment matters one of the
most important factors is the
time. This time can be short,
sometimes having duration of
hours or days, for those who are
traders and it extend in years together
when investors park their money in
long duration investment instruments.
In long term investments the time
frames are necessarily longer. And
in investment terminology, it’s this
duration of holding an investment
which is called the investment time
horizon.

Time-horizon investing is all about
planning. Deciding how to invest our
time is a formidable task. You need to think about your goals.
Once you have done that, investment selection is based on
the amount of time you have until the goal must be funded.
I am sure, as an investor your primary goal would be
to calculate return on investment (ROI) and you aim to
maximize return on the money you invest. It would be a
different ball game if you as an investor start to think of
time as your primary investment. Everything you do is an
investment of time. In many ways time is more valuable than
money. You will always have the opportunity to multiply your
money through various investment instruments. But once
time has been spent it’s gone forever. Remember, when you
take time as a commodity, and consider all of your actions in
the market as investments, it changes the way you approach
every day decisions.
Take the case of a trader who while trading a stock in the
market, fails to close a position within a predetermined time.
This is one of the biggest mistakes a trader can make. He
suffers losses in a jiffyIn long term investment, less the age
of the investor, more is the time at his disposal. For example
a 30-year-old investor should have a time horizon of at least
40 years. Even if he retires at 60, he needs to consider that
he will likely be living into his 70s. That means, he needs to
stay invested for a long time.
In investments having a long term time horizon, the
relative volatility of market doesn't matter. This is due to the
fact that there is plenty of time for the price to recover.
So using of time horizons in investing is of utmost
importance. As an investor you need to ask yourself about
the time horizon that suits you before parking your money
in any investment instrument. Once you are clear about
this, you can easily arrive

frame. Shorter the period of your investment, more is the
risk of falling prey to the market volatility. In investments
having a time horizon of long duration, market volatility that
causes the value of your investment to plunge may not be
an immediate danger given that you have a long time at your
disposal to recover.
While in market, don’t invest your time too heavily in
one area and not enough in another sector. This can be
problematic. Always try to strike perfect balance by timing
your investment in different areas. This is one of the keys to
stay safe to a large extent when you stay invested in volatile
market conditions. Precisely, knowing your investment time
horizon will make your investment productive and your life
pleasurable.
So the bottom line is that time is more important than
money. Time can make you money, and well invested time
can multiply your wealth. So the successful investment
mantra is that your time horizon is most valuable thing you
have. Don’t throw it away on activities that have a poor return
on investment. Here your every decision is an investment.

Addressing the gathering, Vikar
said the coalition government has
taken the initiative of addressing the
unemployment problem and special
schemes like Seed Capital Fund
Scheme (SCFS), a primary component
of the Sher-e-Kashmir Employment
and Welfare Programme for Youth
(SKEWPY) are a part of it. “Self
employment and entrepreneurship are
the only ways to curb unemployment
in J&K. Our government is commied
to help educated unemployed youth
in this direction,” Vikar said.
