Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | July 23, 2015, Thursday epaper.GreaterKashmir.com facebook.com/DailyGreaterKashmir STATE twitter.com/GreaterKashmir_ September 2014 floods Budgam families cry for relief Srinagar, July 22: Hundreds of families of Kawoosa Khalisa in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, hit by September 2014 floods, have alleged that they were not given any compensation as concerned officials had failed to register assessment of their damages while preparing the list. The flood-hit residents said that revenue officials prepared the list of affected families in closed rooms. “The list was prepared thus to benefit only some influential persons who were shown in records as having their houses fully damaged, while the poor have been left out from the list who actu- ally are the worst hit,” said a group of locals led by Abdul Rahim Gojree. “We brought the grievance in the notice of concerned officials who failed to probe the matter and redress grievance of 330 left out families,” they added. “Some families have received more than two cheques for one structure in our locality. The officials and some influential locals are hand in glove in this fraud,” they alleged. “As many as 330 flood-hit families have been left out. Others have received second instalment of compensation money and we are yet to receive even interim relief announced by previous NC-Congress regime,” they rued. Threatening to hit streets if their grievances were not redressed soon, the victims have sought personal intervention of Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Divisional Commissioner Asgar Samoon into the matter. When contacted for his comment, Deputy Commissioner Budgam said, “I am in a meeting and can’t talk.” SHEIKH NAZIR Kangan, July 22: Scores of activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba Wednesday launched sanitation drive in flood-hit village of Kullan here while its parent organisation, Jama’at-eIslami established a relief camp for the affected people on SrinagarLeh highway in the hamlet. The relief camp is providing food and medical aid to the sufferers. The area was ravaged by flash floods caused due to cloudburst on July 16 that claimed five lives, injured many and damaged property worth crores of rupees in Kullan, Gagangeer, Bodpaden and Sonamarg. About 50 families are being provided food, drinking water and medical facilities in the camp. BHOG & ANTIM ARDAS With profound grief and sorrow, we inform the sad demise of our beloved mother Sdn.
